2027 VLSS Theme: Smart Surgery Symposium

Join us for the 2027 Veterinary Laser Surgery Symposium (VLSS), May 14-15, 2027, in Nashville, TN. This year’s Smart Surgery Symposium will focus on surgical technique, clinical decision-making, and practical applications of CO2 laser surgery in veterinary medicine.

The program will feature lectures, case discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on learning, with special emphasis on BOAS surgery, veterinary dermatology, and techniques veterinarians can apply in everyday practice.

Featured Topics

BOAS

The BOAS program will explore practical surgical approaches to brachycephalic airway disease, including early intervention strategies for general practitioners and CO2 laser techniques for procedures such as staphylectomy and ala-vestibuloplasty.

Faculty will share surgical approaches, cases, and lessons from their own experience managing brachycephalic patients.

Veterinary Dermatology

The veterinary dermatology program will examine common and challenging conditions in which CO2 laser surgery can be an important clinical tool.

Planned topics include masses, follicular cysts, chronic pododermatitis, interdigital cysts, otitis-related applications, and techniques for working in difficult anatomical locations such as the perianal, periocular, and interdigital regions.

Hands-On CO2 Laser Labs

VLSS 2027 will also include optional hands-on CO2 laser labs for veterinarians at different levels of experience.

Guided sessions will focus on foundational skills, technique refinement, tissue response, hemostasis, procedure planning, and efficient surgical workflow. Attendees will also explore technologies such as SmartSet Technology and specialized clinical applications.

Testimonials from Past Symposia

The program was very well organized with incredible speakers. This is one of the best seminars I’ve attended.

William F. Yohler, DVM

I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I’ve learned a lot about the physics of how a laser actually works… Some very good interactions with some very experienced faculty. It was very valuable for me.

There was a good range of presenters. I liked the fact that they were from different places around the world… A real practical variety to draw on people’s experiences. I thought it was excellent.

Karin Davids, BVSc, MANZCVS

I look forward to implementing what I learned here. Please continue your excellent efforts to spread the word about the ALSC and its RACE approval. I look forward to seeing even more vets next year. It was a great pleasure joining you all again, seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Congratulations!

Christopher Winker DVM, VMLSO
