Ankyloglossia, Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTS), and Oral Restrictions are best identified, diagnosed and treated with a multidisciplinary team of providers. We will explore the important role of this team in growth & development, airway, feeding, and speech.
Stages of speech development will be presented with early identification of oral restrictions as they impact communication, language, speech, and feeding/swallowing impairments.
Orofacial myology disorders {OMDs) will be defined and cases presented that illustrate normal and abnormal oral-facial structures and the development of compensatory habits that affect speech, chewing, swallowing and breathing.
The benefits of Massage & Craniosacral Therapy is presented illustrating the effectiveness for newborns and babies with torticollis, tightness of oral structures, and the improvement of structural alignment for effective breastfeeding, growth & development. The importance of physiological system coordination through pregnancy, birth & delivery will be discussed.
This curriculum provides an introduction to the use of Dental lasers with the ALSC curriculum detailing the physics of soft tissue ablation, cutting, & coagulation with laser and hot tip (non-laser) devices. Laser hands-on wet lab on tissue samples will include different laser wavelengths.
