Hot Glass Tip Diode Frenectomies ARE NOT Laser Frenectomies
“Hot Glass Tip Diode Frenectomies ARE NOT Laser Frenectomies. Do dental laser education and proficiency certifications fail patients’ and dentists’ expectations across the globe?” by Peter Vitruk, PhD, MInstP, CPhys.
During diode laser soft-tissue surgeries, both the excessive thermal necrosis (from the heat emanating from approx. 1,000° Celsius charred hot glass (!) tip) and the excessive bleeding (from cuts by cold glass (!) tip that lost the char) can occur. Without knowing that a near-infrared soft tissue cutting diode laser is not a laser beam cutting device, it is challenging for anyone to properly use it. In order to meet patients’ and dentists’ expectations across the globe, the standards for dental laser proficiency certification and the quality of the dental laser education resources must be elevated.
